NEW MEGA-BRITE LEDs
LEDSFX has announced the availability
for new lighting effect designs the Mega-Brite White InGaN
LED.
The new LEDs are manufactured using mix of gallium nitride
(GaN) and indium nitride (InN). It is a ternary group III/group
V direct bandgap semiconductor. Its band gap can be tuned
by varying the amount of indium in the alloy.
The new Mega-Brite White LEDs are available in 3mm and 5mm
sizes with a luminous intensity output of 16,000 mcd and
15,000
respectively. These new LEDs are available for immediate
use in LEDSFX custom designed illumination effects. Water
clear
and diffused LEDs can be specified.
LEDSFX has already incorporated these new Mega-Brite
White LEDs in a special effects lighting system for use on
a parade float at a major Florida theme park. For this application,
the LEDs were controlled by a series custom programmed microcontrollers
to create a very unique illumination effect.
Stephen Taylor, lighting design engineer at Sigma Two Group
LLC said in an interview that, "These new
LEDs are amazingly bright compared to what we've previously
used. Even more surprising is the low power to brightness
index. We can design battery operated systems that can last
